What It’s Really Like Being a Female Athlete?

What comes to your mind when you think of a female athlete? Do you picture a strong woman with muscles, amazing stamina, and laser focus? Or maybe someone is constantly on a strict diet? These days, female athletes aren’t exactly rare. More and more young women are training hard to go pro. Being an athlete has a lot of benefits, not just physically, but also mentally. It teaches discipline, builds strength, and pushes you to know your body better. I experienced this myself when I was younger, going through tough training to improve my flexibility and movement.

Now, let’s be real, not every woman loves sports. And, indeed, most sports fans are still men. Generally, men tend to be more physically active and often focus more on fitness. But from my own experience, being a female athlete made me much more aware of my physical health. If I go even a week without doing any kind of sport, I start to feel it. I genuinely believe my body is healthier than it would have been if I hadn’t trained during those earlier years.

One thing I’ve noticed is that I recover from illness pretty quickly. I don’t run to the pharmacy the moment I catch a cold. Usually, I just rest, drink lots of water, and give my body a day or two to bounce back. If I still feel off, then I’ll take medicine. On top of that, my metabolism works pretty well, I rarely have any issues unless I’ve eaten something super spicy. I love sambal (always will!), but sometimes it fights back with a stomachache. Still, I’d take sambal over any sauce, except maybe mayonnaise. That one’s in its own league!

For me, being a female athlete isn’t just about hitting goals or pushing limits. It’s also about being proud of my body, of what it can do, not just how it looks. These days, lots of people are focused on getting the "perfect" body for beauty standards or social media trends. But for athletes, fitness and body shape are natural outcomes of the training we do. Some women athletes follow super strict diets, but honestly? I used to eat a lot just to keep my energy up during training. That said, I’m still picky, if I don’t like it, I won’t eat it!

So, that’s my take on being a female athlete. It’s not always easy, but it’s definitely something I’m proud of, both for what it taught me and how it shaped who I am today.

Warm regards :b
