PERSPECTIVE: Your friend is a fan of documentaries?

Have you ever watched one yourself, or do you have no idea what they’re about? I think most movie fans aren’t very familiar with documentaries. Usually, people go to the cinema to watch movies like action, comedy, drama, fantasy, horror, or romance. Because of that, documentaries don’t get as much attention, unless it’s during a movie festival.
A documentary is a non-fiction film meant to “document reality,” mainly for teaching, educating, or keeping a historical record. As someone who loves documentaries, I find them full of knowledge and new perspectives. I enjoy them even more than many other movie genres, even though some can last over an hour. To me, they’re always worth the time.
My favorite documentaries are about ancient history and space exploration. Honestly, I think I’ve watched over 200 documentaries in my life! But what I love most is watching them at movie festivals. Talking with a friend who is a documentary filmmaker, I’ve learned that making a documentary isn’t easy. It requires a lot of time, effort, and resources, especially since many documentaries focus on preserving important historical events.
Watching documentaries gives me a different experience compared to other types of movies. No matter the subject, they help me understand historical contexts and challenge my way of thinking. I especially enjoy the way documentaries handle timelines and use time-lapse storytelling to show change over time.
If you like learning by watching and listening, I highly recommend trying documentaries. You can find them at film festivals, on streaming platforms, or even on YouTube.
Warm regards :b
