PERSPECTIVE: What comes to mind when you think of a female leader?

What comes to mind when you think of a female leader?

Do you find yourself curious about how she manages tough situations, or do you just quietly admire women leaders from afar? It’s true, women in leadership roles are still not as common as they should be. But honestly, it’s not something totally new for our generation. Women have always played key roles in history, whether it was stepping up during world wars or leading countries and movements. Feminism has helped bring women’s leadership into the spotlight, shifting how society sees us. Today, more people recognize that leadership isn’t about gender, both women and men have what it takes to lead well.

That said, there’s a stereotype we can’t ignore: people often say women are more emotional than men. It’s true that men might appear more emotionally steady in stressful times. Speaking from my own experience as a leader, emotions do run high sometimes. But here’s the thing, if you want to lead, you have to learn to control those emotions and focus on strategy. Leadership means thinking ahead, even when your environment isn’t fully behind you. Life’s full of ups and downs, but how you handle those moments defines your leadership.

One of the hardest parts I’ve faced is criticism. When you’re doing your best, you sometimes feel like you’re already giving it your all. I’m usually open-minded, but at first, criticism makes me want to defend myself. Still, I’ve learned to step back, listen carefully, and use feedback to get better. The truth is, most people don’t like being criticized. But as leaders, we can’t avoid it, we owe it to the people who trust us. Leadership isn’t about being a boss or a ruler, it’s about serving others and setting a positive example.

Throughout my leadership journey, I never used my position to gain personal favors. I believe leadership is about sacrifice, giving more to your team than you take. Any benefits I gained were ways to improve how I lead, not just perks. Real leadership isn’t about blending in, it’s about making a difference. If you’re not ready to accept responsibility and face criticism, leadership won’t be easy.

I read a lot: books, articles, motivational quotes, that boost my confidence and skills. But no matter how much advice you gather, it won’t help if you don’t believe in yourself. The real key to leadership is self-confidence. If you don’t trust your own abilities, leading others becomes impossible. That’s my perspective on what it means to be a woman leader.

Warm regards :b
